What Is Quiche Lorraine?
Originating from the Lorraine region of France, quiche Lorraine was first developed in the 16th century. The dish was originally made with a bread dough crust and filled with cream, eggs, and pork fat or lardons. Over time, the crust evolved into a buttery shortcrust (pâte brisée), and Gruyère cheese was added to create the version beloved worldwide today. Its versatility has led to many variations, but the classic combination of bacon, cream, eggs, and cheese remains a timeless favorite.
